Why Package with Industrial Shrink Wrap?

Industrial shrink wrap has several advantages when selecting a protective packaging material. Here are some of the benefits of packaging with shrink wrap:

Preserves product integrity of heavy and bulky items

Keeps out dust, dirt, and moisture

Provides tamper evidence for safety and warranty

Rightsizes packaging to eliminate waste

Reduces shipping and warehousing costs

Provides a protective second skin to prevent damage during shipping and handling

Rightsize Your Protective Packaging with Commercial Plastic Wrap

Traditional packaging for heavy, large, and odd-sized items can result in overly bulky items that take up unnecessary pallet and warehouse space. Commercial plastic wrap gives your products a tough, protective second skin that can withstand high abuse while minimizing bulky boxes, bubbles, and packing peanuts. A perfect packaging fit allows you to optimize pallet and warehousing space and pocket the saved shipping costs. Cutting down on unnecessary packaging materials also means reducing your company’s packaging footprint on the environment.

Case study:
Flxtite® AP-XH

An auto parts manufacturer was packaging brakes in corrugated boxes

filled with styrene foam peanuts. They wanted to replace the peanuts for three reasons:

  1. The loose peanuts were taking up a tremendous amount of space in the warehouse and littered the warehouse.
  2. They wanted to be more sustainable.
  3. They wanted to automate and speed up the packaging process.

Therefore, they purchased a shrink packaging system and replaced the old packaging method. They place the brakes on a corrugated paperboard and shrink-wrap them with 150 gauge Flxtite® AP-XH heavy-duty, cross-linked, center-folded film.

Switching to shrink film cut down tremendously on wasted warehousing space, eliminated the messy peanuts littering the floor, automated and optimized their packaging speed, and helped them achieve their sustainability goals, all without compromising on protection for the auto parts.

FAQs about Industrial Plastic Wrap:

Industrial shrink film, or professional shrink wrap, is commonly made of polyolefin, polyethylene, or PVC (polyvinyl chloride). Polyolefin shrink film is a popular choice for industrial applications due to its strength, durability, and suitability for various products. It is also considered more environmentally friendly than polyethylene or PVC shrink film. Industrial polyethelene films have excellent strength and durability as well and provide an excellent alternative when cost-efficiency is the driving factor.

Industrial shrink wrap offers several benefits for packaging large and heavy items. It protects against moisture, dust, and tampering, ensuring that industrial equipment, machinery, and other large items are securely packaged for transportation and storage. Additionally, industrial shrink wrap enhances the overall presentation of products and provides a professional appearance. Its durability and strength make it a reliable choice for industrial packaging applications.

It depends what the film is made of. All non irradiated shrink films can be recycled, including some that are biodegradable and compostable, like our Ecolene® brand. Check with your local recycling program to see what types of shrink film are accepted.

Crosslinked shrink films are treated with radiation, which creates a stronger, more durable film. Non-crosslinked films are not treated with radiation and are typically more cost-effective. However, they are not as strong and are not universally compatible with all types of packaging equipment.

Stretch film and industrial film are both used for packaging and protecting products, but they serve different purposes. Stretch film, or stretch wrap, is a highly stretchable plastic film commonly used to unitize and protect palletized goods during transportation and storage. It is designed to stretch and cling to itself, providing stability to the load. On the other hand, industrial film, such as industrial shrink wrap, is a thicker and more robust material used for heavy-duty applications, such as wrapping and protecting large machinery, equipment, or oddly shaped objects. Industrial film is often used to create a protective barrier against moisture, dust, and tampering, and it can also provide additional structural support. While stretch film focuses on stabilizing and securing palletized loads, industrial film is designed for broader and heavier applications requiring enhanced protection and durability.
